DaNang for a day.....

So i arrived all safe and sound to my new journey in Vietnam.
My driver displaying a sign for GVN Volunteers (Global Volunteer Network)...i walk over and receive a huge a smile and thankyou (gee..i didn't even do anything yet!!)....i thank him and with the mutual thanks over he helps me with my bags across the road....he is distracted by someone calling out to him and another man approaches to assist me as Mr T (that is his name)..is needed to hold the sign for one more arriving volunteer....I am led behind my luggage to a van where two other volunteers are already inside; Chan from Canada with a vietnamese background and Ann from Melbourne with a Taiwan background.
chan is a Occupational therapist and will be assisting the Physiotherapist, i also find out she is coming with me to Tuy Hoa (pronounced Ti Wah...i'm gonna find this language hard to pick up....lucky i have an interpreter!!!), Ann is a teacher but will be doing similar to me...just being a helpy helper....Ann is staying in DaNang...no travelling for her!!!The next volunteer to arrive at the van is Eva...she is also from Australia and a teacher, she is also going on the long journey to Tuy Hoa with Chan and I.
We reach the Volunteer house where will be housed for the next two nights( Monday and
Tuesday).....I meet Niki a New Zealander (older woman), June who is also older, Tracey who is the most stunning Canadian girl with an Indian background (we soon hit it off but sadly she is going elsewhere)...i do hope to keep in touch with her...i find her refreshing....and very connected to herself...
we get shown our rooms and i am sharing with Eva and someone who is not home from work as yet....it's like a surprise or opening a present....somewhat like the secret santa circle...could be good...could be awful!!!!
Eva and i have a bit of a chat and then decide on freshing up with a shower, Connie our other room mate arrives and we discuss what they had been doing for the day...eventually Connie notices my yoga mat and we get talking about that...She seems lovely and has obviously had a few challenges in her life so far....We also meet Olivia who is also Australian and comes from Sydney. Both Connie and Olivia are placed her in Danang.
I lay down for the night with my mosquito net strategically tucked at every corner leaving only a gap big enough for me to slide in and out in case of needing the bathroom late at night.
when my  head hits the pillow the springs of the mattress slowly make circle outlines on my body...feeling every spring like there was no cushioning between them and me....yep....looks like another greats night sleep.....i slide down further on the bed (mind you i have a double bed mattress this time....ok, it's just on the floor but hey it's double and the room is kind of nice although i get the feeling that with each journey the accommodation is sliding into the lower relms of the star system (as in 5 star to start....3 star in the middle and i am hoping not 1 star to end!!!)...) the repositioning lower on the mattress doesn't help...i try sliding to the far right....nope...the left....pretty much the same...i turn to my side but now my ribs hit the springs....i resign myself to the fact that i won't be getting too much sleep tonight and tell my body
to just lay very very still....apparently my body doesn't listen to me either....i tossed and turned all night....feel like shit this morning!!!!!
6.20am - today being Tuesday the 4th we have our orientation at 8.30am which apparently goes for 5 hours. i am hoping they teach us some of the local language and i need help with the pronunciation..it's very precise with it's little dashes and symbols all meaning something different....i've looked into it but without hearing it and being able to write it down i won't remember.....
Am excited about my day ahead and do not feel as out of place here as i did with the Elephant refuge...i think because we are a smaller group (still more girls to meet which i didn't last night due to my early departure for my bed of springs) and the place we are in is a house not a community center....I'll try and get some practical things done today like some washing and grab anything else i think i may need in Tuy Hoa from here as we are all unsure what the little village is going to be like.....
No place to practice yoga this morning either, my room mates are still asleep and the volunteer house seems to be in the middle of an industrial estate....no garden and the space inside the house is taken up with desks and tables and work areas....and of course walking areas.....
A lovely lady has just come through....we exchange 'good mornings' and introduce ourselves....Nuin..she is my Vietnamese placement co-ordintator....she is lovely and her english is very good....I am currently liking the group i will be with.....Nuin has just confirmed the 8 hour ride to Tuy Hoa is by train and we will be leaving around 11am tomorrow....i really just want to get the ball rolling and find out what is expected of us and what we can expect.....
tummy is rumbling now..it's now 7.10 and definately time for breakfast.....
Will post a little later but for now....my first day has officially begun!!!
Love and Light
